Reinstall OS

Reinstalling the OS resets your server to its default state by wiping existing data and reapplying a clean operating system image. This guide walks you through the process.

  • Once the reinstallation begins, the process is irreversible. All existing data on the system disk will be permanently deleted. Please ensure you’ve backed up any critical data before proceeding.
  • You can only do this action when the server is in these statues: Running, Stopped, or Error.
  • Reinstallation may take 20–30 minutes to complete.
  1. Navigate to AI Infrastructure and Metal Cloud in the sidebar to view the Server list

  2. Choose a server and click Actions

  3. Click Reinstall OS

  1. Configure your new OS image in the pop-up

    a. Select an OS image type:

    • OS: Select from available templates (e.g., AI/ML Ready, Ubuntu-22.04 GPU)
    • Custom Image: Use a pre-approved image (e.g., IMG6GB) if applicable

    b. Set Authentication Method:

    • Choose one of the following:
      • Password: Set a root/admin password for direct access
      • SSH Key: Select an existing SSH key or upload a new public key
        Click Next to continue.

    c. Enter User Data (Optional):

    • If you have startup scripts (user data), paste them here.
      Example: bash or cloud-init scripts for automated setup
    • Leave the field blank if not required
      Click Next to continue.

  2. Confirm Reinstallation

    • Review your selections.
    • A final warning will appear. If you're ready, click Confirm to launch the OS reinstallation process. Alt text

You can now access the server with your new credentials and configurations after the server status is "Running"!
